Parádsasvár

The so-called ancient maple of the Mátra can be found along Road No. 24, some 600 metres from the village. The reason that makes the tree so special is that this is the only place where we can find such a tree. Neither the shape of its leaves, nor its bark or fruit resemble that of other maple trees.

Maples similar to this lived some 5 - 20 million years ago. However, the name of the settlement should first of all remind us of glass making. The plant, which is an outstanding industry-historical phenomenon, and the museum, are open to visitors (by appointment: between 10 and 15 on workdays, telephone: 36/367-027).

 At present, the former Károlyi-kastély (Károlyi Palace) is a five-star hotel. The row of Parádsasvár ancient maples can be seen along the right side of Road No. 24, to Parád.
