Northern Hungary
In the 18th century, workers working in the alum-quarry instinctively tried to use the water that collected in the shaft to ease their suffering. The news of the curative effect of the water spread quickly in the area, then in the whole country. At present, there is a sanatorium operating here. The Parád water, with significant iron and manganese content, is suitable for the treatment of gynaecological complaints, conditions of fatigue, as well as for the treatment of diseases of the stomach and intestines, in the form of a drinking cure. If you feel like hiking, you should walk as far as the Ilona-völgy (Ilona Valey) waterfall (some 10 metres), the highest such formation in the country. We can also visit a nicely furnished Palóc peasant house (Opening hours: Tuesday - Sunday: 9:00 - 17:00, in the winter season: 10:00 - 14:00) and the exhibition of Asztalos Joachim, master wood-carver (Opening hours: Monday - Sunday: 9:00 - 18:00). We can see coaches and horse-drawn slays in Cifra Istálló (Cifra Stable) (Opening hours: Tuesday - Sunday: 9:00 - 17:00, in the winter season: 10:00 - 16:00).
