Nagybárkány paraméterei:

Nagybárkány is the centre of the Kis-Zagyva valley's settlements. It is situated by the 21st  main road, 18 km away from Salgótarján. The national Blue tour route is running across the village, what attracts a lot of tourists, especially in summertime.
The neighbouring forests are very rich in games, and beloved hunting grounds. The Nádas lake near the village is a valuable nature preserve. The statue of Saint Florian commemorates an earlier tragedy.
Acommodation can be found on the nerby Lucfalva and Sámsonháza. The picturesque nature, the fresh air, the beautiful view and the hospitable inhabitants are waiting for the visitors.

The Past

According to the first written mentioning of the settlement it was donated to István Porcz of the Rátót clan in 1265, who was the ancestor of the Pásztohi, Tari families and the Kakas family of Kaza, all of which had played an important role in the life of Nógrád county for centuries. In 1416 the landlord of the village was László Bárkány. In 1472 the palatine Mihály Guthi Országh and the Kompolthy family of Nána took possession of the village. In 1524 Ferenc and Zsigmond Pásztohi and in 1598, during the fifteen years war Gergely Pásztohi held possession of the settlement. According to the papal tithe list of the village had already been standing at that time, but the present church has only been built in 1883. There was a great fire in the village in 1889. However, the statue of Siant Florian, that protects the settlement from the fire, commemorates another, earlier tragedy.
