Northern Hungary
The settlement is accesable by bus or car 9 kms from the 21st main road, or from the direction of Salgótarján or Pásztó. the village is located in the inner part of the Cserhát mountain range, in a quiet, relaxed surrounding with clean air. The village is a "one way" village from where no road leads further on. The settlement's biggest value is the untouched natural environment, the East-Cserhát Landscape Protection Area's Tepke range, the Bézma hills, and the Buda hill between the Zsúnyi and the Kis-Zagyva valley. Here can be found the most variable formations on the surface by morphology. The belfry is from the 18th century, was made by stone and it's worth to see. The village's most beautiful sight is the Roman Catholic Church, with its unparalelled inner church. In the village there operates a library and a cultural centre.
The past
The area is populated since long ago, from the period of the Hungarian Conquest the village was owned by the Kacsics clan. In 1265, similar to its neighbour Nagybárkány, the village was obtained by István Porcz of the Rátót family, the Pásztohi, the Tari and the Kazai Kakas families. Until 1415 the village was owned by the Pásztohi family, in this year King Zsigmond donated the land to the Kazai Kakas family. In 1454 again the Pásztohi family became the landowners of Kisbárkány. Later it became property of Mihály palatine and the Kompolthy clan. In 1609 King Rudolf donated the land to Ferenc Berényi.
