Central Transdanubia
Herend's name assumed its significance a century ago, and it rings familiar all over the world even if most do not know where to locate it on the map. Te Porcelain Manufactory, founded in 1826, produces fine ornaments and exquisite tableware. Its products have been recognized and awarded prizes on various world fairs ever since its foundation and they find their place on the dinner tables of royal courts. On the territory of Herend, which assumed town rights only recently, several villages existed in the Middle Ages. In 1472 King Matthias gave the village together with the Castle of Nagyvázsony to Pál Kinizsi. During the Turkish invasion the village was deserted, it was resettled in the eighteenth century their folk traditions. The German Nationality's Choir and the St. Eustic Choir take a major part in preserving their customs. The colourful programmes of the German Nationality Festival, the Forester-Hunter June Festival and the Beer Festival are repeated success with visitors from year to year. The Herend Porcelain Manufactory and the Majolica Factory helped the village in attaining town rights, and the Porcelain Museum attracts numerous visitors. The rich charasteristic game stock of the Bakony makes the region an excellent hunting place all year round
