Western Transdanubia
A village with a population of 1,300 on Lake Fertő, 20 km from Sopron. The village is part of the Fertő-Hanság National Park and the World Heritage. The neo-Romanesque Catholic church was built in 1904. The stained-glass windows of the church and the frescoes painted by Péter Prokop are to be seen here. The statue commemorating the plague (1701) and further two sculptures, the Pieta (1720) and Saint George (1742) are all baroque works of art.
A major attraction of the village is the thermal bath, which is open throughout the year. Its medicinal and thermal water can mainly be used to cure locomotor disorders. Pleasant entertainment is offered by the anglers' lake. The cycling path around Lake Fertő crosses the village. The Art Festival of Hegykő is organized between 22 June and 3 July 2005 and the Feasts of Hegykő are held between 6 and 7 August 2005.
