Hajdúszovát

Archaeological findings attest that the settlement was inhabited as early as the Neolithic Age.The village was first mentioned in the papal tithe-roll of 1332/37 when it was registered as an ecclesiastical village. In the 16th century the village belonged to the castle of Bajom and as such was bestowed on General András Nagy, the captain -general of the Hajdú yeomanry, in 1608. It started to use its name from 1897.

The unemployment rate was rather high , 23 percent. Hajdúszovát seats 15 limited liability companies ,7 limited partnerships and 20 shops .

The majority of the inhabitants are empolyed in agriculture and trade.Its cabbage cultivation in the field of agriculture is improving and making its name known again.

The infrastructure has been developing in the past few years.The development plans include the installation of of the drainage system.

Ferenc Buday , the famous professor of the Reformed College of Debrecen had worked as a preacher in the village.Among the historic sights of the village there can be found the Reformed Church ,built 1785-87, the Calvinist vicarage from 1794 and the field-guard's house.

Besides these the rampart with 10 loop-holes built in the 12th century complement the monument group of the village. Around the settlement there are several unexplored barrows (Báshalom, Szőrös-halom, Nagy-and Kishegyeshalom, Pányihalom).
