Budapest and the Central Danube Region
Our walk begins at the Town Hall. The imposing two-storey building with a central projection topped with a two-planed roof and a small rounded dome and prominent corner was erected in 1891-93:
the eclectic Town Hall was designed by the Budapest architects Ágoston Márkus and Gyula Illés.

Passing through the main entrance we reach the hall of columns from where a grand staircase leads to the upstairs ceremonial hall with a gallery, flanked by two smaller conference rooms. The Town Hall was renovated for the centenary in 1993 and outdoor illumination was installed in 1995.
In 1997 the first memorial tablet in the courtyard pantheon was unveiled. It commemorates Mayor Ferenc Gubody. Four more stone tablets have been added to the pantheon since then.
